More than 70 people participated in the Run for Caledon organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association.
The association is Canada’s largest Muslim youth group in Canada and is engaged in various humanitarian and charitable initiatives across the country. Organizer Hassaan Shahid said the group held 25 runs, including the one in Caledon.
“There are 54 foundations and organizations being supported. This is our second run in Caledon and the beneficiary is Cassie’s Place. They assist people with developmental disabilities and based on the community need we decided to support it.”
The event took place at the Humberview Track in Bolton and various dignitaries attended including Councillor Mario Russo.
The Run for Caledon attracts all age groups, especially youth, to run, jog or walk to support their community.
“The overarching motivation behind these charity runs and all the work of the association is to give back to humanity and that’s what was taught to us by the prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, and that is what is behind all our initiatives,” added Shahid.
